As some learned late last week, changes are afoot in my world.

As per above.

I was asked about my contract from time to time, a document I paid a lot of attention to in the Fall of 2018, but very little once signed. In my mind it was a 5 year contract.

In reality it was a rolling contract with specific terms around either party exiting. Technically there was no end date… a bit like a variable rate mortgage in 2024… the infinity plan.

I didn’t really retain that bit of info though, because as part of the initial interview for the role I looked two gentlemen in the eye, shook hands, and gave my word that I was 100% in for 5 years. My word, sealed with a handshake, means more to me than what’s written down.

And it’s been my experience that the spirit of an agreement matters more (in the real world) than the letter of an agreement.

To be fair, it’s also my experience (in mortgage world) that if it isn’t written down then it didn’t (or may not) happen.

Contracts do matter, especially if things go sideways.

In this case nothing did.

A firm handshake on top of a solid contract proved a winning combination for five+ years.

And what a growth experience! One that I’m deeply grateful for.

I learned a lot about the industry, about communication, and about myself.

At this point, it feels as if I’ve left everything I had on the playing field… although I’m still out on that field for another 75 days or so – because I’m committed to a smooth transition for all involved.

Key Point; Whatever one exits in life; a business, a contract, a marriage, a staff party, or a highway, one should always strive to exit gracefully.

On that note, to each of you who played a part in my journey leading up to the role, through the role, and beyond, I offer a sincere Thank You.

In particular to the two gents took a chance on this guy.

And to the many of you who offered advice, support, encouragement, resources, and an ear along the way.

Thank you, to each and every one of you, thank you!

Stay tuned for Act 3!
