Short Version

All good things come to an end, and sometimes we choose the end… as crazy it feels to do!

When you see an opportunity, or are handed one on a silver platter; GO FOR IT!

Never stop pursuing the next big thing!

Even though you may not be sure exactly what that thing is.

Long (self indulgent?) Version

It’s an interesting moment in time for myself, this March 31st of 2024.

It’s my final day as President of Mortgage Architects.

That this day falls on the Sunday of a long weekend makes it a bit odd feeling.

It’s an oddly quiet day, which is fine.

Quiet is good.

The role taught me a lot over the past 5+ years.

it’s probably given me another 5+ years of blog-post material in fact.

For me the role was effectively ‘remote-work’ by default from day one due to massive travel; 199 nights on the road in 2019 alone. Which of course prepared me somewhat for the 2020 experience.

Looking back at my decade of Brokering previous to this role, I ‘d been promoting ‘telephone meetings only’ to anyone who’d listen. And then boom – we were all forced into remote meetings. And yes productivity soared… but a few things were surely lost in the mix.

Because while remote-work due to travel is one thing, and remote-work (client calls) from a busy office environment is another, the concept of remote-work from home, the idea of never leaving home, well this was another thing altogether.

We had to figure out new ways to stay connected with our peers.

And we did, sort of.

Work from home was never something I embraced whole heartedly. in fact work from home was for me already on the books as a failed experiment back in 2012.

Just not my jam.

I like an office space.

I’ve always been a ‘work-from-an-office’ kind of guy, as many of you know… no doubt I pushed more than a few of you to lease or buy office space in an effort to separate your home life from work(aholic) life.

This new way, it became a tangled web for many of us through 2020, 2021, and even into 2022.

The landscape today around work; where we do it, and how we do it, has changed radically.

It changed for you, for me, for our staff, and for our clients.

And in the midst of all this change, I’ve decided to affect another change by stepping down from what’s been a truly amazing role. Arguably one of the best roles in the Broker space.

When a role such as this one is offered… you say YES!

When one sees the opportunity to pursue such a role, you get in the game and GO FOR IT!

I did one or both of the above when this opportunity presented itself. And I’m glad I did.

But to walk away from such a role, ‘kind of a crazy move Woodhouse’ – ya well…

I’ve made em before, and I’ll make em again – crazy moves.

So what’s next?

First off, a bit more work with Mortgage Architects, as March 31 is technically not my final day with the company, the final date is closer to June 15th. So the answer to ‘what’s next’ is a ways out.

And this’s great, because I’m still waiting for the answer to ‘what’s next’ to become clear in my own mind.

It’s 100% going to be connected to helping people around me, Brokers for instance, realize two things;

  1. We’re each capable of more than we realize.
  2. We’re not alone in our struggles.

Stay tuned!
