It’s easy in January to make excuses for where our business is at.

The market

The holidays

Back to school

The weather

The this

The that

Ya-ya…

There’s one key question to ask yourself though; Am I on my heels, or am I on my toes?

And no, I don’t mean those badass 6” stiletto heels – save those for Saturday nights ladies… and gents (no judgment from this guy!)

By ‘on your heels’ what I mean is are you leaning back, leaning back in your chair, responding to incoming calls, emails and texts… and calling it ‘work’.

Sure it’s work… sort of.

But is it REAL work?

No.

You’re just clocking hours, like the next shlep-rock down the block is doing.

Next thing you know…

you’re talking about what? You’re talking about… whining about that sale you shot, some son-of-gun don’t wanna buy land… somebody don’t want what you’re selling, some tinder hook-up gone wrong… and so forth… let’s talk about something important…

what’s with that last paragraph?

If you know you know.

So, what is ‘real’ work?

Real work is work that advances you, advances your company, advances you towards your goals, advances you in the market, advances your perception in the eyes of others.

Real work is when you create something from nothing.

Real work is picking up the phone, making outbound calls.

Real work is showing up, seeing others, being seen (in a positive light), and listening to others.

Being heard matters… not as much as the listening part does though.

Real work is you on your toes, leaning forward not back, you with a spring in your step, you ready to jump… to pounce on opportunity.

That guy at the car lot, the one standing way off in the corner smoking, that guy is leaning back. That guy is waiting for you to come to him, and he’ll be waiting a long time in this day and age. The game has changed, the market has changed, and world around is changing steadily as well.

The keener, the person staring out of the front window of the showroom, looking at the prospect the same way a kid looks at a puppy through a pet store window, that person springing to the door to hold it open for you, asking you how your day is going, if there’s anything they can do to help you, offering to take your coat and hang it up for you, that person is doing the REAL work.

Are you?

Back to that IYKYK paragraph above…

They’re sitting out there waiting to give you their money, are you gonna take it?

Are you Broker enough to take it?

OK, enough classic movie trivia.

Again, ask yourself: Am I on my heels, or am I on my toes?

If you’re not making things happen yet, 3 weeks into the year, when are you gonna start?

The last two weeks of this year are a write off, look at the calendar and you’ll see what I mean.

Your productive year ends ~Dec 1, call that another 5 weeks off the year, with 3 already gone.

You’ve 44 weeks left to happen to this market!

You’ve 44 weeks left to happen to your database!

You’ve 44 weeks left to happen in all the ways!

So get at it.

Get happening!
