- DISCIPLINE – A.K.A. Constant Spaced Repetition
Step One: Belief
Belief boils down to three little words: clarity of purpose.
Clarity of purpose is crucial.
Do you know whyyou are doing what you are doing?
Do you believe wholeheartedly in the why? Do you feel an unshakable sense of purpose around the path you have chosen? (For example, helping people navigate the overwhelming and often confusing process of acquiring real estate.)If yes, then you are ready to begin your journey.
But belief alone will not get you where you want to be.
Step Two: Determination
Once you have clarity of purpose you can determine a path forward to achieve your results. You know what you want to make happen; now you need to put a plan in place to make it happen.
That plan can be as simple as making ten outbound prospecting calls per day. Something this simple will easily put you into the top 20% in your field inside a year. And all it requires is some belief, some determination, and maybe few more pieces.
The challenge here?There will be dozens of daily distractions leading you away from your ‘why’, away from your plan, and away from success. Determination to execute your plan daily is critical.
Step Three: Action
Also known as execution, implementation, KPI’s, or whatever other buzzword of the day is being used to guilt you through a seemingly significant absence of said buzzword in your life. In reality you take action every day. Ask yourself this: are your actions part of a plan based on Belief and Determination?
If not, why not?
Are your actions rooted in discipline?
If not, why not?
Step three may be simple, but it can be difficult to maintain. Making ten calls a day is easy for two or three days in a row. Go put up 100, 200, or 300 days in a row. That’s for the elite… or is it? If entry into the ‘elite’ club is as simple as making ten calls a day then why aren’t we all members?
Because simple is not always easy.
Hence the required fourth ingredient.
Step Four: Discipline
Discipline is sticking to your routines under changing conditions, change for the better or change for the worse. Whereas ‘routine’ is little more than habit.
Routine is who we are during brief moments in time of smooth sailing. Discipline, or a lack thereof shines through from our core being when things become challenging, when our world gets stormy.
Routines are easily upset, thrown off balance by things as basic as having too little time, or too much time, too little money, or too much money. Or when a friend buys a new boat. Your level of internal discipline boils down to your personal makeup, that special mix of your nature and your nurture, which can be altered if your belief is strong enough.
Discipline is key.
Discipline is all.
Discipline will make you.
A failure to achieve discipline… will break you
Discipline is the silver bullet you’ve been looking for, and when applied as the fourth ingredient with the above three it quickly becomes clear it was always the key ingredient, and often the missing ingredient all along.
Conclusion – discipline applied = ambitions achieved
